Project Overview
Zuleika Velazquez (two-time Tony-nominated director), featuring cast of Mami Chula Social Club set out to produce The Vagina Monologues NYC, a bold and powerful theatrical performance aimed at raising awareness of gender-based violence while fundraising for Latinas y Líderes, a nonprofit supporting adolescent girls in the Dominican Republic.
The Challenge
Zuleika Velazquez (two-time Tony-nominated director), featuring cast of Mami Chula Social Club set out to produce The Vagina Monologues NYC, a bold and powerful theatrical performance aimed at raising awareness of gender-based violence while fundraising for Latinas y Líderes, a nonprofit supporting adolescent girls in the Dominican Republic.
Branding & Visual Storytelling – The production needed a strong yet digestible visual identity that complemented the monologues while ensuring accessibility for a broad audience.
Audience Engagement & Fundraising – A strategic social media campaign was essential to drive ticket sales, create community buzz, and secure sponsorships, with the goal of raising $25,000+ for the nonprofit.
The Vagina Monologues was a bold and impactful theatrical production, directed by benefiting Latinas y Líderes, a nonprofit supporting adolescent girls in the Dominican Republic.
This production was not just a performance—it was a movement designed to raise awareness, generate funds, and elevate conversations on women’s empowerment. The production uniquely featured a predominantly Dominican cast, which garnered attention from Telemundo, major sponsors, and influential figures.
As Lead Graphic Designer and Creative Assistant, I played a critical role in campaign & social media strategy, branding, marketing, event production, and performance. My creative contributions extended from graphic design to multimedia storytelling, including a TED Talk-inspired intro video that set the stage for the monologues.
Objectives & Significance
The production had three primary goals:
Generate awareness about gender-based violence and women’s empowerment.
Sell out the show to maximize fundraising efforts.
Raise $25,000+ for Latinas y Líderes, supporting adolescent girls in the Dominican Republic.
This production was particularly significant because it marked one of the first major performances featuring a predominantly Dominican cast of The Vagina Monologues, reinforcing the importance of representation in theater.
The creative direction aimed to balance bold storytelling with a modern, minimalistic aesthetic—ensuring that the powerful monologues and the cause itself remained the centerpiece.
My Contributions

Despite tight deadlines and high expectations, I successfully executed a strategic and visually compelling campaign that led to a sold-out performance and record-breaking fundraising.

Used bold sound bites and visuals to modernize the transition between monologues and set the stage for each performance.

This creative addition energized the audience and set a compelling tone for each segment, making the performance feel both timeless and contemporary.
